The 55-year-old ‘Clueless’ star burst into tears over the rapper’s death in a TikTok video posted Wednesday, saying she was “embarrassed” that she “didn’t know” about his cocaine-induced heart attack.
“I’ve been clean for six years and a month today, and it breaks my heart,” Dash said. “He lost to it. He lost to that demon of addiction. Please don’t lose.”
The “Single Ladies” alum acknowledged that her social media upload was “late” and added: “I was walking through #tiktok and found a #DMX song that saved me many times. Suddenly it says #RIP.
“I didn’t know he died,” she went on to write. “he #OD I’m devastated – he was such a great guy.”
Confused fans reacted to Dash’s emotional footage, joking, “This gives a whole new meaning to Clueless.”
Another asked, “Is this the trailer for Clueless 2?”
Many wondered where Dash went to miss the news, noting that DMX’s death was “everywhere” last year.
The Grammy winner’s family confirmed that he died on April 9, 2021 at the age of 50, after being left in a “vegetative state”.
“Earl was a warrior who fought to the end,” the family members of the “Party Up (Up In Here)” rapper wrote in a statement at the time, using his real name, Earl Simmons. “He loved his family with all his heart and we cherish the time we spent with him.”
Celebrities also paid tribute to DMX, including its “Cradle 2” co-star Gabrielle Union.
