Sheryl Lee Ralph Had a Fashion Shortage Before Emmys 2022

This wardrobe emergency could have sent someone straight to the director.

“Abbot Elementary” star Sheryl Lee Ralph stunned on Monday’s 2022 Emmy Awards red carpet in a sleek, strapless black velvet dress with an orange lining — but she almost got a serious fashion faux pas.

Ralph revealed that she was almost unintentionally stuck on the red carpet. “A designer gave me and my co-star the same sketch for the same dress,” the sitcom star told the Associated Press.

She didn’t discover the situation until she was on set when co-star Lisa Ann Walter Ralph showed off her own outfit plans — an off-the-shoulder green dress with puff sleeves and a gold belt buckle that she ended up wearing until the September 12 awards ceremony.

“Until five days ago, I didn’t have a dress, I had nothing,” Ralph said. “Brandon Blackwood learned about my plight from Roberto, the stylist, in New York.”

Ralph, 65, said Blackwood was “performing” and “was in Japan and the dress started to render on its flight to the Pacific.”

The designer — who makes handbags and small accessories and only recently stepped into shoes with a pair of custom-made shoes — made his “first ever dress” for the occasion, according to Instagram.

Fans called the combination “legendary” and raved “she looks gorgeous as always.”

Her stylist Roberto Johnson also had a full circle moment, as he wrote on his Instagram Stories: “A day after my 15th US migration anniversary, I can say that [sic] I styled an Emmy winner!”

Ralph, who plays longtime teacher Mrs. Barbara Howard on the ABC show and stunned when she accepted her award with a song, completed her look with, of course, a Brandon Blackwood mini purse, and diamond choker and long braid intoxicated with crystals.

Ralph was praised for her inspiring acceptance speech after taking home the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

“To anyone who’s ever had a dream and thought your dream couldn’t come true, I’m here to tell you this is what faith looks like,” she told the audience.
