The best thing about being a woman is the privilege of showing a little skin.
On Friday, Shania Twain released her first new song in five years, “Waking Up Dreaming” — and posed sultry for the single’s album cover.
The 57-year-old country pop icon posed topless for the shoot, wearing little more than a cowboy hat and a pair of colorful pointed boots.
“I styled that photo myself. It was all about taking the bra off, taking the shirt off, tying the shirt around my waist,” Twain told The Sun.
“This is a statement of being comfortable in my own skin and just really being myself.”
The man! I Feel Like a Woman” hitmaker also appealed to the response female artists of a certain age often get for flashy flesh.
“You have to be strong. I never really get mad at criticism. You can’t please everyone, that’s normal,” she said.
And Twain’s celebrity friends and fans couldn’t get enough of the cover photo, which the superstar shared on Instagram last week.
Countryman Orville Peck dropped heart emojis, while Drag Race winner Priyanka raved, “WE ARE READY.”
“Beautiful photo!!” added Marc Bouwer, the fashion designer behind Twain’s iconic 1999 Grammy dress (which Kelsea Ballerini recently loaned for the 2022 ACM Honors).
The new song comes after Twain joined Harry Styles on the Coachella stage in April for a surprise performance.
Twain is also working on a biopic, hinting at the prospect of a musical on the horizon.
A biopic would certainly be entertaining as she has lived a wild life. In her Netflix documentary, “Not Just a Girl,” Twain reflected on her divorce from her cheating ex-husband, Robert “Mutt” Lange, who was having an affair with her former personal assistant and best friend, Marie-Anne Thiébaud.
Twain was going to marry Marie-Anne’s ex-husband, Frédéric Thiébaud.
