Prince Harry will be “sad” if he can’t wear his military uniform to Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, royal sources exclusively tell Vidak For Congress.
The Duke of Sussex was stripped of his military titles when he left royal life in 2020 and moved to California with his wife Meghan Markle.
The rest of the men in his family will be wearing full uniforms to the monarch’s funeral at Westminster Abbey on September 19 – all but the disgraced Prince Andrew, we’ve confirmed.
Andrew — who was forced to leave public life after paying millions of dollars to Jeffrey Epstein prosecutor Virginia Giuffre — will be allowed to wear his military uniform on Monday while watching over his mother at Edinburgh’s St. Giles Cathedral, where members of the royal family family, including King Charles III, will stand next to the coffin in a tradition known as the Vigil of the Princes.
None of the grandchildren will watch over the Queen, who died last Thursday at the age of 96, we are told.
A royal source said: “I’m sure Harry will be saddened not to wear his military uniform to the Queen’s funeral.”
None of the Queen’s children or grandchildren wore their military uniforms to her husband Prince Philip’s funeral in April 2021.
The decision was made to avoid any embarrassment that might overshadow the ceremony.
The break in tradition saw the men dressed in robes and medals as they walked behind the coffin of the Duke of Edinburgh to the service that took place at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, England.
Harry, 37, is a war veteran who has seen active duty on the front lines in Afghanistan, firing at the Taliban from an Apache helicopter.
At Philip’s funeral, Harry was photographed with three medals on his chest plus the neck order and star for his accolade Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, awarded by the Queen in 2015.
The last time he was seen in uniform was at the Mountbatten Festival of Music at London’s Royal Albert Hall on March 7, 2020, just before moving to the US.
Among them was the one he received for his military service in Afghanistan, as well as the Queen’s Gold and Diamond Jubilee medals.
Harry lost three military honors when he left the UK: Captain General of the Royal Marines, Honorary Air Commander of RAF Honington and Commodore-in-Chief Small Ships and Diving.
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have confirmed to Her Majesty the Queen that they will not return as working members of the Royal Family,” the palace said in a statement at the time.
“After conversations with The Duke [of Edinburgh]“The Queen has confirmed in writing that by relinquishing the work of the Royal Family it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties of a life of public service.
“The honorary military appointments and royal patronages held by the Duke and Duchess [of Sussex] shall therefore be returned to Her Majesty, before being redistributed to working members of the Royal Family.”
Harry and Markle, 41, reunited with Prince William, now Prince of Wales, and his wife, Kate Middleton, now Princess of Wales, outside Windsor Castle on Saturday to watch floral tributes and talk to mourners after William contacted Harry at the eleventh hour.
The brothers also banded together to provide the inkwell for their father, King Charles III, for when he signed the documents to declare him monarch on Saturday.
