An autopsy showed that “Naked and Afraid” contestant Melanie Rauscher accidentally died when she inhaled a lethal amount of compressed air used in cleaning products, according to a report.
Rauscher, 35, was found dead on July 17 near some cans of dust cleaner in Prescott, Arizona. The autopsy report from the Yavapai County Medical Examiner stated that Melanie had inhaled the poisonous propellant, causing her to become unresponsive, TMZ reported Saturday.
Her official cause of death was listed as difluoroethane toxicity. The slang for it is called “huffing,” and it’s a practice most commonly used by young adults looking for a cheap high. The report states that drugs and alcohol played no role in her death.
Rauscher had been a dog sitter at the time. The owners came home from vacation and found her dead on the bed in the guest bedroom.
