Leave Meghan alone!
Fans stood up for Meghan Markle after she went against tradition and held Prince Harry’s hand during services in honor of his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.
Wednesday, after the procession that saw Her Majesty’s casket being moved from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall, the exiled couple was photographed holding each other.
Despite comforting Harry, the former actress’s gesture received mixed (mainly negative) reactions and was even called a “violation” of protocol.
However, her loyal fans were quick to defend her.
“people are really attacking Meghan Markle for holding her HUSBAND’s hand at a memorial service for his late grandmother… like it’s so weird how people will feel [sic] any reason to be mad at her, such as showing affection to her own husband,” tweeted one angry fan.
“Acceptable: holding your partner’s hand while grieving your grandmother* *unless your partner is Meghan Markle,” wrote another.
“This is where criticism of Meghan Markle and Harry comes from” [sic] crazy. Husband’s grandmother just passed away, I don’t think anyone would begrudge his wife holding his hand right now, there’s plenty of real to criticize [sic]leave this one alone,” interrupted someone else.
“Meghan Markle holds her husband’s hand at his grandmother’s funeral. How dare she comfort her grieving husband,” wrote another.
Since returning to the UK after the Queen’s death, Harry and Markle have shown a united front as they face the Royal Family once again.
The two also held hands when they were reunited with Prince William and Kate Middleton, both 40, at Windsor Castle. The former actress, 41, held her husband, 38, as they greeted mourners and walked around with hundreds of flowers and tributes to the late Queen.
Harry and Markle may feel more comfortable bending the royal rules as they infamously gave up royal duties in January 2020 and moved to California.
Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8 at the age of 96 and her funeral will take place on Monday, September 19 at Westminster Hall.
