Meghan Markle hits back at the public’s “sexual” reaction to the early days of her and Prince Harry’s romance.
“When I started dating my husband and we got engaged, everyone thought, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re so lucky he chose you!'” the 41-year-old “Suits” told Mindy Kaling on the episode of her Tuesday “Archetypes” podcast.
“At some point, after you hear it a million times, you think, ‘I chose him too,'” Markle said, noting that she was “lucky” to have Harry’s support at the time.
“I have a partner who refuted that story for me, saying, ‘They’re all wrong. I’m the lucky one because you chose me,’ she explained.
The Duchess of Sussex added that the “stereotypical” reaction to her relationship with her now-husband, 37, “fueled this idea that you wait for someone to tell you that you are good enough rather than know that you are” in one is good enough.”
Markle and Kaling, 43, discussed the “Mindy Project” star’s decision to raise her two children — daughter Katherine (4) and son Spencer (2) — without a partner.
Single parenthood “makes” [Kaling] emotionally,” she told Markle, explaining that she has a strong bond with her own father.
“I know it would be so precious to my children that they have a father, [but] it wasn’t our family’s lot in life,” the Office alumnus said. “I think about it with nostalgia and also fear what they will think when they get older.”
