Lil Uzi Vert updated their pronouns to “them/them” in their Instagram bio on Sunday.
The 26-year-old “Sanguine Paradise” rapper made the update to their gender identity after International Non-Binary People’s Day on June 14.
Born Symere Bysil Woods, the artist has yet to address the change in an official capacity other than updating their social media profile.
However, they did respond to a tweet aimed at those who read, “Yo they 🤾🏼♀️”, writing, “Yo yeat 🫡.”
This news comes after Uzi surprised fans with “Space Cadet,” a new track the Philadelphia native uploaded to SoundCloud this weekend.
The artist “Money Longer” then tweeted“I’m a Space Cadet, the nerd that’s real” along with several emojis, including the alien, the spaceship, the satellite, the fire, and double hearts.
The surprise release is three years in the making, with Uzi previously stating they were “done with music”.
“I want to take the time to say thank you for all my support [sic] but I’m done with music,” they posted. “I deleted everything. I want to be normal… I want to wake up in 2013.”
Days later, the “Eternal Atake” artist clarified their comments, claiming that their label was preventing them from releasing new music.
‘Do you think I don’t want to drop music? You just have to understand that when people don’t love you, they’re holding onto your life if you draw a motherf-king… Hold that to you,” they said in a video posted to social media.
Uzi also likened signing a record deal to snitching, explaining, “And that includes the street. You are not supposed to not sign Mother King paper on the street, because that sucks. So why the f–k, I even sign this s–t as a deal. Motherf–king set myself up. What other way was I supposed to let this s–t go? St, it’ll be all right in the beginning, just like those motherf-king rats.’
