At least two of “Mama June” Shannon’s daughters claim they had no idea their mother married Justin Stroud in a secret ceremony in March.
Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, 16, told E! News Monday that the courthouse wedding — which made headlines in May — “surprised her” because Shannon, 42, “was always someone who said she’d never get married.”
“But I mean my mom now, she’s definitely different,” added the former “Toddlers & Tiaras” star.
Her 22-year-old sister, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird — who has had full custody of the teen since April — told the outlet she “didn’t know” about the wedding until she “got a receipt in [her] PO Box that said: [Shannon] applied for a marriage certificate.”
“I recently asked her about it. She denied it,” Efird said. “And then she finally said, ‘Oh, I’m married,’ and we were very, very shocked.”
According to E! News, neither daughter revealed how they feel about Stroud, 34, but Efird seemed upset that she and Thompson weren’t invited to what Shannon later called a “spur of the moment” wedding.
“If she feels like we don’t have to be a part of that, then it is what it is,” Efird said.
Shannon — who is also mother to Anna Shannon, 27, and Jessica Shannon, 25 — and Stroud secretly married on March 23 in Georgia after dating for less than a year, the Wilkinson County Clerk confirmed to Vidak For Congress on May 31.
The secret wedding took place a week after Stroud, a tattoo artist, was released from prison following his arrest in February at a Florida gas station over an outstanding warrant for drug possession.
This is Shannon’s first marriage, as the reality star was never legally married to Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson (Alana’s father), although they considered themselves married.
Stroud was also Shannon’s first boyfriend after her much-discussed divorce from long-time boyfriend Geno Doak.
