Florence Pugh fights back against “vulgar” critics of her pure couture.
The “Don’t Worry Darling” actress attended the Valentino Haute Couture fashion show in Rome, Italy on Saturday, wearing a very Barbiecore hot pink dress that happened to be sheer at the top.
And after receiving a spate of negative comments, Pugh, 26, took to Instagram on Sunday to share a lengthy post defending the look.
“Listen, I knew when I wore that incredible Valentino dress that there was no way I couldn’t comment on it. Whether negative or positive, we all knew what we were doing,” she began.
“I was excited to wear it, no wink from me was nervous. I wasn’t before, during or even after.”
She continued: “It’s not the first time and it certainly won’t be the last time a woman will be told by a crowd of strangers what’s wrong with her body. The disturbing thing is how vulgar some of you men can be. Fortunately, I have come to terms with the intricacies of my body that make me who I am. I’m happy with all the ‘flaws’ I couldn’t bear to look at when I was 14.”
Pugh started to open up about some of the abusive comments she received.
“So many of you wanted to aggressively let me know how disappointed you were by my ‘small tits’, or how I should be ashamed of being so ‘flat chested’. I have lived in my body for a long time. I am fully aware of my bust size and am not afraid of it,” she wrote.
The star also added that she “grew up in a household of very strong, powerful, curvy women,” saying: “It’s always been my mission in this industry to say ‘fk it and fk that’ when someone expects my body to change into an opinion of what is hot or sexually attractive.”
She concluded with a message to the haters: “Grow up. Respect people. Respect bodies. Respect all women. Respect people.”
Celebrity friends were quick to support Pugh, with Aubrey Plaza writing, “Okay, here’s what I said.” Ariana DeBose added: “RESPECT. Period of time.”
Joey King commented: “You really are that amazing. You articulate what so many feel but cannot articulate,” while Jameela Hill wrote, “You are a magical king queen and we don’t deserve you.”
