An orgasm after more than a year of celibacy was “terribly disappointing” for Steve-O.
The “Jackass” star talks about his sexual addiction in his new memoir, “A Hard Kick in the Nuts: What I’ve Learned from a Lifetime of Terrible Decisions,” which reveals that a therapist advised him that the first step to recovery abstinence was – and that didn’t include masturbation.
Steve-O, whose real name is Stephen Gilchrist Glover, admits his first attempt ended after a few weeks, but then he gained some serious time.
“I didn’t ejaculate all year 2014,” he tells Vidak For Congress exclusively. “Well, actually, I’m sorry, it was like a year and three months. There were about 15 months, 431 days I went [without ejaculating]. And the moment that happened, my belief was that I should be able to do that for myself.”
The stand-up comic, 48, is now engaged to stylist Lux Wright and began his sex addiction therapy before the two met.
“As I approached 40, I thought, well, I’m on a path that doesn’t lead to true happiness,” he says. “And I endorsed the idea that future happiness depended on my developing the ability to have a healthy relationship.
“And I started to become the man who deserves the love of my life, recognizing that I had not yet met the love of my life, and that if I met the perfect person, I would have been completely useless to that person unless I have to work on becoming the right person. So you know, that was it.”
Glover confesses that it was not an easy or quick journey, but something that was very important.
“I worked on it for a long time and I couldn’t be more grateful,” he adds.
The YouTube star also expresses remorse for his past behavior.
“It was repulsive, you know, the idea of just using people and throwing them away,” he says.
Steve-O will be signing copies of his latest book at the Barnes & Noble in Union Square on Thursday, September 29.
