“Dancing With the Stars” pros Val Chmerkovskiy and Jenna Johnson are expecting their first child.
“It was not an easy journey for us to get pregnant,” Johnson, who is expected in January 2023, told People Friday.
“We have come home [from a trip to Cabo], and about two weeks later I thought, ‘Wait a minute, my breasts feel very large and very sore. I haven’t started my period yet,” she recalls. “So I peed on a stick, and it just went positive. The shock and disbelief was insane.”
Johnson, 28, told Chmerkovskiy, 36, the news by handing him a Nike shoebox with baby Jordan sneakers and two pregnancy tests in it.
“I was at home shaking as I waited for him to come home. So he casually walked in, and ironically he had a bag of Nikes on him,” she said. “I was like, ‘Did you go shopping today?’ He said, ‘Yes, I have new sneakers for myself.’ I’m like, “No way. I’ve got some today too.”
“He came up to me, threw the lid off the box and started rummaging in it. He looked at the shoes and thought, “How small are these sneakers?” Then it hit him, and his face… it was priceless.”
Johnson told the magazine she is nearing the end of her first trimester, which she described as “a scary time” because “so many things” can go wrong.
“But I’ve just made it a priority for myself to really make a shift and prioritize the baby and what’s happening and all these new changes,” she said, adding that she’s giving her body “the rest it needs.” gives.
Johnson joked that Chmerkovskiy is “obsessed” with “everything” about her changing body, from “the breasts” to “the butt” to “the belly”.
“If he is what he is as a husband, he will be the best father in the world,” she enthused about the two-time mirror ball champion, who is already an uncle to his brother Maksim Chmerkovskiy’s 5-year-old son, Shai. “He is so selfless and loving.”
