Harper Beckham “Wannabe” isn’t quick to wear her mom’s old Spice Girls outfits.
In a new interview with Vogue Australia, Victoria Beckham revealed that her only daughter isn’t a fan of the sexy styles she wore while performing with the iconic girl group in the 1990s.
“She said to me recently, ‘Mommy, I saw some pictures of you when you were in the Spice Girls and your skirts were just unacceptable. They were just too short,'” recalled the 48-year-old fashion designer.
“Then David came up and said, ‘Absolutely, Harper! They really, really were.’ And she was actually quite disgusted by how short my skirts were.”
While Beckham was famous for her penchant for tiny bra tops and little Tom Ford for Gucci tubular dresses – “The other Spice Girls weren’t really in fashion, so I was lucky enough to be able to take most of the budget,” she joked – Harper’s personal style is getting a lot less lean.
“I said, ‘Would you never wear skirts like that?’ She said, “Absolutely not.” We’ll see,” said the British beauty. “She’s not one of those kids who go out with a full face and a crop top.”
Beckham shared a similar sentiment in a 2018 interview on the Barneys Podcast, saying, “I was amazed at how naked the costumes were…I always went out with not much clothes on.”
When asked if she planned to pass on any of her Spice Girls days to her daughter, she replied, “Absolutely not.”
In addition to dismissing overly sexy styles, Beckham also told Vogue Australia that she hopes Harper doesn’t spend too much time on Instagram, which she finds “pretty terrifying”.
“Harper isn’t on social media, so we don’t have to worry about that [body-shaming] yet,” she said. “But when you see how cruel people can be, yes, it really is.” [concern me]†
Beckham added: “She’s at that age where her body is going to change, but it’s about making sure we communicate a lot as a family and she surrounds herself with fun friends.”
The style star shares Harper — along with sons Brooklyn, 23, Romeo, 19, and Cruz, 17 — with former professional soccer player David Beckham.
