Chrissy Teigen celebrates a year of sobriety as she reflects on her past relationship with booze.
“Not a drop of alcohol in 365 days!” she announced on Instagram Monday with a video showing her hanging out with her husband, John Legend, and their children, 6-year-old daughter Luna and 4-year-old son Miles.
Teigen admitted she misses “feeling listless and carefree” at times, but acknowledged that drinking just didn’t give her “that nice feeling” towards the end.
“I drank to end crazy anxiety that usually went away later when I — get this — stopped drinking!” she explained, adding that she feels “really good” despite sometimes getting “frustrated” with the days when she “should remember much better”.
She gave a few examples, “like when I was drinking café patron and fell asleep while an Outback Steakhouse chef was teaching me (my friends) how to make a blooming onion in my home.
“I wish I was awake for that.”
The cookbook-turned-model writer also wishes she “remembered every award ceremony,” noting that she often looks at photos of herself “of life’s great moments” and feels her eyes “disappear.” appear.
Some of the photos, she explained, are from “actual work shoots,” while others captured “beach days with the family.”
“While I STILL don’t know if I’ll ever drink again, I do know that I don’t ever want to be like that again. And for now none are the best,” she explained. “I let the bad dreams come up and try to solve them in therapy, without alcohol.”
Teigen, 36, capped off her post by tagging Outback Steakhouse and asking for “a blooming onion again.”
Thousands flooded the comment section with congratulations, including her Grammy-winning husband.
“Sooooo proud of you my strong beautiful woman!” Legend, 43, gushed, as supermodel icon Naomi Campbell added: “Well done @chrissyteigen .. it’s better on this side. I love to recover. Sending love ❤️.”
Teigen has celebrated several milestones in her journey to year-long sobriety, including with her six months and her 50-day mark.
She started experimenting with periods of sobriety in November 2020 and the following month she shared the news with her fans.
At the time, she wrote Holly Whitaker’s book, “Quit Like a Woman: The Radical Choice to Not Drink in a Culture Obsessed with Alcohol,” as inspiration for her decision to get sober.
Teigen has been open about her struggle with alcohol in recent years, revealing in 2017 that she was cutting back on alcohol because she didn’t know how to have just one drink. At the time, she noted that alcohol abuse runs in her family.
