Country stars Cassadee Pope and Maren Morris have spoken out against comments by fellow countryman Jason Aldean’s wife, Brittany, which some consider transphobic.
“I want to say a big thank you to my parents for not changing my gender as I went through my tomboy phase. I love this girly life,” Brittany captioned an Instagram clip of herself putting on makeup for Beyonce’s “Upgrade U” Wednesday.
“Lmao!! I’m glad they didn’t either, because you and I wouldn’t have worked. 😂,” her husband replied in her comment section.
On Friday, Pope went to Twitter with a message to fans, reading: “You’d think beauty brand celebs would see the positives of including LGBTQ+ people in their posts. But instead here we are, hearing someone compare their “tomboy phase” with someone who wants to switch. Very nice.”
Morris then replied in agreement as she dug herself, tweet“It’s so easy to, like, not be an asshole person? Sell your clip-ins and zip it up, Insurrection Barbie.’
Brittany has since responded to the criticism, accusing Pope of “advocacy for child genital mutilation”, adding: “Some parents are so eager to be accepted by society that they are willing to make life-changing decisions for their children who do. are not old enough to fully understand the consequences of their actions.”
She also responded to Morris with, “Karen Morris. Thanks for calling me Barbie.”
Friday afternoon, Pope took to Instagram to share a photo of himself with a sly smile with the caption, “POV: Knowing you got under someone’s skin you don’t like in the first place 😂.”
Meanwhile, Morris spent much of her time with back and forth with conservative commentator Candace Owens.
Perhaps in an effort to calm the debate, Brittany took to Instagram on Saturday afternoon with the simple message, “I love y’all, that’s all❣️❣️❣️.”
