Carlos Santana is recovering after passing out on stage on Tuesday night.
The musician, 74, “was taken to McLaren Clarkston’s emergency department [in Michigan] for observation and is doing well,” his rep told People on Wednesday, noting that he was “being overtaken by heat exhaustion and dehydration.”
The Grammy winner was performing at the Pine Knob Music Theater when he collapsed. He was then wheeled off on a stretcher, waving to fans as he left.
Santana has since postponed his upcoming show in Pennsylvania.
The guitarist went on tour with Earth, Wind and Fire in March, making 32 stops so far.
Santana’s health scare comes seven months after canceling multiple Las Vegas shows due to an “unplanned heart procedure.”
“There are rumors here and there about this and that, so I’m here to crystallize it and make it clear,” said the Santana frontman. told his fans in a December 2021 Twitter video.
“Last Saturday I had an incident where I asked my wife, Cindy, to [Blackman], to take me to the hospital because I had something in my chest,” he explained at the time. So when we went there we found out that I had to take care of it. That’s how I am.
“I’m going to take some time off to make sure I replenish, and I’m resting and catching up on my health so that when I play for you, I’ll play like I’m used to and give you 150 percent,” Santana added.
The Mexico native concluded by saying he “wouldn’t show up” to perform “unless” he could give the audience his best.
