Britney Spears shared her Grammy-winning voice for the first time “in an extremely long time” Friday when she took to social media to sing a new version of her 1998 hit, “Baby One More Time.”
“This is me yesterday, doing laundry and separating clothes 👚… haven’t shared my voice in a long time… maybe too long 🤷🏼♀️,” Spears, 40, began her long Instagram caption from the clip where the diva sings in a dimly lit room while you take a break from some household chores.
“and here I am playing at my house – with a different version of ‘Baby’,” she added.
She went on to explain how eager she was to release an updated version of the song on her eponymous diamond-selling debut album, but that her plans were thwarted by her 14-year conservatorship, which ended in November 2021.
“Well, I’ve been asking for 14 years what I wanted…another version of ‘Baby’, but let the producers really work for me and put it together…a start…but as the TEAM said NO and serves me with 4 girls, my sister included, who did a 5 minute version of 4 remixed songs on a T without even having to put in the effort or dance…just beautifully shot and the sound was NEW!!! They ruined it for me, embarrassed me and made me feel like I was nothing at all!!! The truth is off-king bitch!!!” Spear wrote.
Judge Brenda Penny of the Los Angeles Superior Court recently ruled that Spears’ father, Jamie Spears, should face a statement in Los Angeles as part of an investigation into his role as her conservator.
The “Stronger” singer also addressed fans who would likely tell her to go ahead with the new song, writing, “Pssss, you say, go do it NOW after 14 years of asking and telling 😬😬… I worked myself out being locked in one place… It’s too late ⏰… Like I said, they ruined it for me ️🤷🏼♀️.”
