Bob Odenkirk shared a heartwarming message with fans as the “Better Call Saul” finale finally landed on Netflix.
Fans of the hit “Breaking Bad” spin-off were hit with the final episode, titled “Saul Gone,” on Monday.
Odenkirk, 59, headed the spin-off as Saul Goodman for a total of six seasons, following his first four seasons on “Breaking Bad.”
And to mark the end of an era for Goodman, known initially to fans as James Morgan “Jimmy” McGill, and later by the alias Gene Takavic, actor Odenkirk a two minute clip shared on social media.
“Everyone has asked me how I feel about saying goodbye to Saul Goodman and ‘Better Call Saul’, and I’m not good at answering the question because it’s honestly hard for me to look at that experience, and even to that character up close,” the unabashedly emotional actor told fans in the video.
Odenkirk thanked the co-creators of the show for showing the spin-off and giving me the chance.
“I didn’t do anything to deserve this role, but I hope I’ve earned it after six seasons,” he said.
He said the cast, which includes Rhea Seehorn, Michael McKean, Jonathan Banks, Tony Dalton, Michael Mando, Patrick Fabian and Giancarlo Esposito, “made me a better actor than I am just by working with them.”
“Watching them work was an incredible experience,” added Odenkirk, who is famous for having a heart attack in July 2021 that nearly killed him.
“Thank you for giving us a chance, because we came off arguably a lot of people’s favorite show ever — and we could have been hated for just trying to do a show,” Odenkirk continued.
“But we weren’t; we got a chance, and hopefully we made the best of it. Thank you for staying with us. ‘Better Call Saul’: A closely watched, quirky story about a very unique man, a little slow at times, but in the end, if you pay attention, it was about big, big things in people. Thank you.”
