Nickelodeon has gotten her into quite a bit of trouble.
“Victorious” alum Daniella Monet criticized the TV network for allegedly letting her participate in scenes she felt were “sexualized” despite her reluctance.
The actress, who played Trina Vegas on the children’s sitcom from 2010 to 2013, told Insider in an interview published Tuesday that “Victorious” was “very PC, funny, crazy, friendly, chill,” but there were occasional some questionable moments.
“Do I wish certain things, like, didn’t have to be so sexualized? Yeah, 100 percent,” Monet, 33, said, referring to a time she contacted Nickelodeon about a scene where her character ate a pickle while applying lip gloss.
Monet said she was concerned the scene was too sexual to air, but the station ignored her concerns.
She also dragged the show’s creator, Dan Schneider, for making decisions she deemed inappropriate for her age.
Schneider, who was also the mastermind behind “iCarly” and “Zoey 101,” dressed child stars in “skimpier” clothing options as the person who signed off on all the costumes, according to the Insider report.
Vidak For Congress has reached out to Nickelodeon for comment.
Monet’s comments about Nickelodeon’s oversexualization of children come after her co-star Jennette McCurdy revealed in her memoir “I’m Glad My Mom Died” that network employees were behaving inappropriately.
McCurdy, 30, claimed she was pressured to drink alcohol at age 18 and received unsolicited text messages from a senior executive at the company. She also claimed that she was offered $300,000 in hush money for not speaking publicly about her tenure on Nickelodeon.
And last week, “Zoey 101” star Alexa Nikolas called Nickelodeon a “traumatic” and “unsafe” environment.
Nikolas, 30, described Schneider, 56, in particular as “the maker of childhood trauma.”
“I didn’t feel safe around Dan Schneider while I was working at Nickelodeon,” she said.
The actress is now asking that networks throw off nondisclosure agreements, which she says are harmful to child stars.
