Angela Yee has announced that she will be leaving “The Breakfast Club” to continue her own show with iHeartRadio called “Way Up with Angela Yee”.
After tweeting Tuesday that “the breakfast club as you know it is officially over,” the radio host announced her departure a day later.
“This is really exciting, but this is something I’ve wanted to do for years, since way before the pandemic,” she told co-hosts Charlamagne tha God and DJ Envy on Air.
“I actually sat down with our big boss and I said to her, ‘Look, I really want my own show,'” she added.
Yee, who has been on the show for the past 12 years, went on to explain that she wanted to go solo again after hosting “The Morning After with Angela Yee” on Sirius Satellite Radio in 2008.
“Years later they approached me, they sat down with me and they told me they wanted to give me my own show,” she said. “But I’m going to leave ‘The Breakfast Club’ and it’s going to be another iteration.”
Yee, who also has her own podcast “Lip Service,” clarified that her new gig will be a nationally syndicated daily show.
“It’s really exciting, I really can’t believe it. I know it took a long time to get this done, so I want to thank everyone who made this possible,” she added.
“This is an amazing opportunity, I’m extremely grateful, I feel extremely blessed to be able to get something very monumental here.”
Yee, 46, noted that she would not be leaving “The Breakfast Club” immediately as they have yet to find someone to replace her. According to TMZ, she will have a hand in the process.
After the news, Charlamagne tha God and DJ Envy both congratulated Yee before telling listeners that “The Breakfast Club” wasn’t going anywhere. While there’s no set date, Yee’s new show is expected to premiere sometime in the fall.
