Hats off to balaclavas.
Kate Moss may have one of the most famous faces in the world, but it turns out she likes to cover up sometimes – revealing in a new interview that she has a penchant for the balaclava.
“I’m a little bit about hats,” she told Dazed. “But oh! I did buy a balaclava. Awesome! A Marc Jacobs striped balaclava recently. gorj!”
While you may think the supermodel chose the face covering — beloved by celebrities like Kanye West and Kim Kardashian — to protect her identity, Moss said she’s not a fan of disguises and prefers “to think I’m just a normal person” despite her fame.
“I like being able to walk down the street with my dogs,” said the 48-year-old. “I do it every day. I don’t wear sunglasses and hats and guards. I just walk down the street with my dogs. And nobody is looking. Someone could ask for a picture and I just say no.”
She added that she’s had “a lot of people around” who try to hide their identities while they’re gone, but “the more they do it, the more attention they get.”
Her unusual purchase of accessories was spilled during a game of chic or not chic with the Dazed, after she was asked if trilby hats — a style similar to the fedora — were in style.
“Oh, Trilby?” Johnny Depp’s ex replied. “No pork pie? Pork tail… not chic! fedora? chic. hmm. No, wait. Not a fedora, not really.”
What else is on the fancy list according to Moss?
Diet Coke of course – the model was recently named creative director for the iconic soda and appears on their new cans in a pop art inspired image along with her signature.
As for what’s not chic at all, she stated that modeling and heat waves were on the list (although the latter isn’t exactly compatible with the $95 knit balaclava she noted), and also considered festival fashion a no-no.
“At Coachella? Not fancy. I think the Coachella style is completely gone,” she said.
The queen has spoken.
