Prince Harry and Meghan Markle learned they were “uninvited” to a state reception for world leaders and foreign royals after reading press releases, multiple sources tell Vidak For Congress.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who have joined the royal family for the past week to mourn Queen Elizabeth II in London, have received an invitation to the event, which will take place on Sunday evening, we are told.
However, a spokesman for King Charles III confirms to vidakforcongress that “the invitation is only for working members of the royal family.”
“Harry and Meghan got the invitation and no one told them they weren’t invited,” a royal source said.
Another palace insider adds: “I’m told they only found out they were uninvited from reading press releases.”
President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau are among the heads of state expected to attend the reception hosted by Charles and Queen Consort Camilla ahead of the Queen’s funeral on Monday.
Guests will also be greeted by the Prince and Princess of Wales, the Princess Royal and the Earl and Countess of Wessex at the Buckingham Palace reception.
Amid the confusion, Harry will join his brother, Prince William, and their cousins on Saturday night to watch over the monarch, who lies in state in Westminster Hall. The king and his siblings held a vigil Friday night.
All week, sources close to the Sussexes have emphasized that the pair will do as asked of them.
Harry – who lost his military titles when he and Markle retired from royal duties in January 2020 – was willing not to wear his uniform at events, but after a turnaround from Buckingham Palace, the former army officer will wear his uniform at a vigil on Saturday.
A source told us at the time: “Prince Harry was just willing to wear whatever his grandmother intended. is focused on honoring her and that’s it.”
Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8 at the age of 96. Her funeral will take place on Monday.
