King Charles III will not reveal the new titles of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s two children, Archie and Lilibet, during Queen Elizabeth II’s mourning period.
Vidak For Congress has been informed that the UK’s new reigning monarch will not comment on new titles for anyone until after the official royal mourning period on September 26.
Archie (3) and Lilibet (1) are expected to take on the Prince and Princess titles. However, it is speculated that they will not receive the titles of His and Her Royal Highness.
“That’s the deal – they can be prince and princess, but not HRH because they are not royals,” an insider told The Sun this week. The source added that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reportedly “furious” that their children will not be given HRH titles.
As previously reported on vidakforcongress, after the death of the Queen and King Charles III’s subsequent ascension to the throne, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor and Lilibet “Lili” Mountbatten-Windsor may be referred to as Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. But that’s only if the royal family follows tradition.
in 1917, King George V made the rule that children and grandchildren of the monarch—in this case, Charles—can claim titles.
But things are not so clear for the children of the Sussexes, after Harry and Markle stepped down as senior members of the royal family in 2020.
In February 2021, they officially resigned from their royal duties and moved to California, fueling tension between Harry and his brother, Prince William.
Markle previously discussed why Archie was not given a princely title under the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. She claimed that there was a change in protocol and that her son was being treated differently from his cousins.
“When I was pregnant, they said they wanted to change the convention for Archie,” the “Suits” alum told Oprah Winfrey in a bombshell interview in March 2021.
Markle said she wanted her children to be given titles so that the British government could provide them with security.
She added that she was concerned about “the idea that our son is not safe, and also the idea that the first colored member in this family will not be given the same title as other grandchildren.”
“All the grandeur around this stuff is an attachment that I personally don’t have. I’ve been a waitress, an actress, a princess, a duchess. I’ve always been just Meghan,” she said, pointing out that “Mommy” is her “most important” title to date.
Markle and Harry have been open about their security concerns and are currently fighting with the British government for more security for their families, despite having relinquished their royal positions.
When the Queen’s mourning period is over, Charles will also determine the new titles of other high-ranking members of the royal family.
Prince William and Kate Middleton, formerly known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, now bear the titles of Prince and Princess of Wales. Charles’ first wife, Princess Diana, held the title of Princess of Wales before her death in 1997.
In addition, Prince Edward could take the late Prince Philip’s title as Duke of Edinburgh. Meanwhile, Charles’ second wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, had already become queen consort at the wishes of the late monarch.
